Sr Mary Xavier McNamara

Sr Xavier generously shared her love of the Lord with all of us here in Christchurch New Zealand. We will remember her smile and her love of life. Our heartful thanks to her and to all of the Sisters of Jesus and Mary who came here. May the Lord bless her and the McNamara family.

Sincere sympathy to all of us on the passing of a wonderful nun. Mother Xavier was a lovely, kind and gentle person. I have very fond memories of her during my time boarding in Gortnor Abbey, and of the many times we met again over the years. I particularly remember her smile and the glint in her eyes. Condolences to all her family and particularly to her sisters in Jesus and Mary.

Sr Mary was an Angel in this life sent from Heaven to minister in St Brigids Parish Ballybane.
She has now parted to her eternal reward in Heaven.
We as a family have been so privileged to have known her for her kindness, generosity, knowledge & wisdom in our presence.
I would also like to thank the sisters of Jesus & Mary especially Sr Maura & Sr Maureen for the wonderful celebration of Sr Mary's life.

You were so proud and boasted of your years as our head mistress for the five years I spent in Gortnor Abbey as a boarder! You cared for us, gave us freedoms and smiled gently with patience and tolerance enabling us to grow responsibly into adulthood. You treated us all with great empathy, encouragement and kindness. May you now receive the rewards so wonderfully earned! God bless your lovely soul.

I got to know Mary Xavier in St . Brigid’s Parish , Ballybane in the early ‘90’s / 2000.
She was so involved in all aspects of Parish & community life . She was a great witty, gentle lady with a lovely smile . Always loved to chat & ask about family. May Sr. Mary Xavier rest peacefully in her Eternal home. Nuala Keady . Doughiska , Galway. 🙏❤️

Deepest sympathy to Sr Bernadette. All of Sr Mary's nieces and nephews. Her in laws Eileen and Gerry who will miss her terribly and the entire Jesus and Mary community. Sr Mary lived such an unselfish life trying to help everybody especially "older people" even though in some cases they were younger than her. She was such a jolly and young at heart person always a pleasure to meet up with and to communicate with, be it in person or by email etc. She loved being able to use the computer. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of this absolute legend of a lady I have some very happy and fun memories of sister Mary she was one of kind and when you promised her that you would do something by God she made sure you stood by it I do not say it lightly but heaven certainly has gained an absolute angel May her kind and gentle soul now rest in the arms of Jesus xx

My thoughts and prayers are with the McNamara family and the sisters of Jesus and Mary. Sr. Mary Xavier was a wonderful, kind hearted and understanding person and never lost her love for learning new things. Its these traits that Im sure many will remember. In her late 80s she was always wanting to understand how computers worked and in exchange for fixing computer issues she would impart many wise words. I will never forget you Sr. Mary.
