Sr. Patricia Fahy

Sister Patricia taught us History and Geography. All done through Iirsh. She had presence as a teacher. You worried if you hadn’t your homework good and ready. I still hear her voice: An Cogadh Céad bliain, Cath Chionn tSáille. Teachers were strict in those days. But she was always fair. Suaimhneas dá h-anam uasal.

We served on interview boards together on occasions & I always found her to be very solid & dependable. She was so dedicated to representing her order on many school boards & long past her retirement age.

The team in Vita - board and staff - offer heartfelt condolences to the Mercy community and family and friends of Patricia. Patricia came to Vita very late in life when rest and repose would have been well deserved. Rather than rest, she brought partnership and joy to our programme in Ethiopia and helped us to further the livelihoods of many thousands of rural women, in perfect keeping with Patricia's own vocation and with the mission and values of Mercy Western Province. We are immensely grateful to Patricia, remembering her with great affection and avidly focused on furthering her legacy to serve the less fortunate but no less deserving.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Sr Patricia. She was a wise and gentle guiding support to me and all of the school community when she was Chairperson of the Board of Management at Mount St Michael Sec. School, Claremorris for several years. I remember her fondly. May she rest in peace.

She always came to class with a smile, was an excellent teacher, never seemed to favour or dislike any pupil, and was the essence of patience with those who needed a little extra help in class. May she now reap her Heavenly reward for her kindness, and may she rest in peace together with her sister and fellow teacher, Sr. Evangelist.
