Sr Patricius Quine

My deepest sympathy to Sr Patricius' family and community on your very sad loss. I had the privilege and pleasure of working with her in Summerhill, and she was a truly inspirational Principal. Her empathy and support for both staff and pupils was always evident. Ni bheidh a leithéad aris ann. May her gentle soul rest in everlasting peace.

My memory of Sr. Patricius is that a smiling, open and calm lady standing outside the small chapel every morning, in St.Joseph’s College, Summerhill, ringing the school bell and welcoming every student by their first name, adding the odd quip, usually around uniform - not ankle socks but knee highs, not grey socks but brown socks, but always delivered in a light-hearted and pleasant manner! The created a safe, fair and nurturing environment, where all could and did succeed. We were treated as equals, with respect and dignity. She was one of a kind and has left a huge legacy.

Sincere sympathy to Sr Patricius nephew, nieces, her mercy community and all who knew her. As a past pupil, the memory of her ringing the bell on the long corridor to keep us all to time. She was fair, kind and sincere, a true leader. Rest in peace

Sincere sympathy to the family of Sr. Patricius and Mercy sisters on the passing of this very gracious lady. I knew her when I was a student, student teacher and substitute teacher in St. Joseph's, Summerhill. She was an inspiration to all and a role model for staff. She combined a strong yet compassionate code of discipline with a mischievous twinkle in her eye! My abiding memory of her will be when the senior girls basketball team won the all Ireland final, in 1984(I think). Her joy and pride in the girls knew no bounds. As the busload of players, teachers and supporters stopped for a break in a hotel, Patricius marched in and ordered minerals and sandwiches for all 40 of us! An unforgetable memory. Rest in peace, dear lady, your great work is done.

My sincere condolences to the Quine family, Sisters of Mercy, Western Province and friends of the late Sr Patricius. As a 1973 Leaving Cert student in St Peter’s, I have some beautiful memories of her teaching us Irish in particular. A great teacher, firm but fair to all her students. Memories of her ringing the bell around the school yard in an effort to get us in from lunch on time. I have a lovely memory of visiting her in 2012 when we sat and chatted for an hour over tea and scones. She then showed me around her accommodation and was so proud of her room and most importantly, her music which she loved. Her enthusiasm, inspiration, patience and beautiful smile always played a part in enabling her create a welcoming learning environment for all her students.May her kind and gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

Deepest condolences to the Quine family and the Sisters of Mercy. I will always have fond memories of Sr Pat who cultivated a grá don Ghaeilge in me, and was incredibly warm and kind in looking after the wellbeing of all her students.
