Sr. Rita Fennell

I was very saddened to hear of Sr Rita's death. She was the first Principal I served under when I started my teaching career in the Mercy in 1985. Sr Rita was a great mentor and genuinely cared for her students and her staff. She was ably assisted by Srs Josepha and Sr Redemptoris, now gone to God also. I returned to Nenagh in 1986 but kept in touch with Sr Rita over the years and missed the communication in the last couple of years. May she enjoy the company of the good Lord whom she served so well when she was with us. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

I had the great privilege of working as School Secretary for Mercy Secondary School for many years following in Sr. Anne's footsteps. Working with Srs. Rita, Josepha and Redem was an absolute joy. Sr. Rita an inspiration....nothing she would ask anyone to do she wouldn't do herself. She was utterly fair, a compassionate, beautiful lady and wonderful teacher. May she rest in peace

I was very sorry to hear of Sr Rita’s passing. She was my principal in Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School Waterford where I taught for 8 years.
I left in 1989 but we communicated through Christmas Cards every year after that until a few years ago.
She was a lovely lady- kind and understanding and always interested in me and my family.

I had the privilege of caring for Sr josepha in havenwood and Sr Rita came into her room , looked at my name badge on my tunic and said " oh we had a Kim in school" I said yes Sr Rita that was me, we started laughing and she hugged me ,..they never forget!! Rest easy Sr Rita x

It is uplifting to read the experience of so many who had positive experience being in contract with this lady, years ago, we know how cruel some nuns were and gave themselves a right to ill treat children and woman who did not have a choice, Sr Rita was a respectable and intelligent woman who was aware of positive results from her decent decisions and her breed, Its more Sr Rita's the world need, God bless U good work which is so well remembered. Rita and I were in the same year in Mater Dei. I visited her a couple of times in Waterford over the years and always received a great welcome. Angela, from the Dungarvan Community, called me tonight informing me of her death. Rita is now with God and God is very near.
