As a member of Teresa’s mercy family I saw what a gift she was. She was open, trusting and could entertain a nation. No work was too menial for her. She was a great cook, an avid reader, with a razor sharp memory, never stuck for the appropriate word! She brought an atmosphere of calm and relaxation.

I was a life- long friend. Teresa was a skilled negotiator. As Leader of our Congregation she steered us in renewing our Mercy way of life with a gentle hand. On a personal note I found she was a compassionate listener, a trusted confidant, a generous wise woman who made a difference.

United with four of the original tea

Our roots intertwine in Mayo. When I came as a boarder to Scoil Bhride, ’57, Teresa and a team of young nuns welcomed us. She was a big woman, but when she bent down to welcome me I saw a beautiful smile and I knew I would be safe here.
This was the area we used after class. We were very clear that it was our space and although some nuns slept in the same building their job was to keep us safe.
There was a very relaxed atmosphere there, minimum rules. It was Spartan times but there was great warmth and friendship. They delegated responsibility and a love of learning. They inspired some to join Mercy.

Condolences to Frances and Kathleen on the passing of Cecily, our loving grandaunt who always remembered our special occasions.

My mother Mary Delia Jones ( nee Connolly) always spoke so highly of Sr Teresa and I was fortunate to meet with her and correspond with her after my mothers death. With fond memories and condolences from the Dunn family. RIP

Sister Teresa was just that bit more human than the average teacher of her day. Teaching us science - its usefulness, its application to real life - she chatted to us as equals. In the stern teacher-pupil schooldays of the time, strict discipline wasn’t her style. This was an approach all teachers would adopt later. In that sense she was a trailblazer.
