Sincere condolences to Bernie, The Johnson Family and the Mercy Sisters at Ard Bhríde on the very sad passing of Sr. Mary Johnson. She was a wonderful piano teacher to our daughter Elise for many years and encouraged a true love of music. Sr Mary and her kindness will never be forgotten. May her gentle soul Rest In Peace.

I was fortunate to sing in her choir in St Angela’s and what a wonderful grounding in music she gave us. I now look back with wonder at some of the pieces we sang with her encouragement and remember how she would conduct us with her head while accompanying us at 10am Mass on Sundays. She gave so much to music and education in Castlebar. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

I had the pleasure of having her teach me choir and singing in primary school and then working with her as a colleague and teacher in St Anthony’s Special School where she was loved and respected by everyone who knew her and she brought musical joy to so many children with additional needs. Deepest sympathy to the Johnson family, and the Sisters of Mercy on the sad passing of Sr Mary. I participated in choir with her in St. Angelas N.S. and she was an inspiration in the way she could get the best out of us.

We travelled to competitions, performed and learned to love music and song because of her. Her children's choir has never been excelled in my opinion. She had the highest of stanards and her knowledge was vast. I was delighted to be able to express my gratitude to her when I met her several years ago, which she met with complete surprise and humility, saying ' did you really enjoy music with me?'. She seemed to have no idea of the impact she had on those she tutored.

I credit the Sisters of Mercy with a good education and Sr. Mary with the joy of music she gave to those she taught and mentored. She has earned her Heavenly reward. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Sr. Mary was an absolute lady,in 1993 when I got married I wanted the choir to sing at the wedding ceremony and she organised all the music and they lifted the roof on the day. She was so kind ,great fun and a great friend to our family.Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. May she rest in heavenly peace.
