We first met several years ago in Tenerife, and although our contact in the intervening years was intermittent we were thrilled to have had the opportunity to meet again in Donegal town last November and renew our friendship. That brief time together is something we will now treasure.
Stephen was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and his kindness and warmth left a lasting impression. We know he will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

My deepest condolences to Stephens family and loved ones at this tragic time of mourning. I remember waiting for a bus days after my own fathers funeral. Stephen saw me waiting for it and without knowing me as well as he knew my older siblings, he got out his car and spent a few minutes with words of comfort for me. That says a lot about a person. He was the loveliest man always smiling and so welcoming. He had a hello for everyone. Ardara has lost a hero of its community.

My family and I are heartbroken here in New Jersey. I am grateful I was able to visit Ardara three times in the last 2 years and spend meaningful time with Stephen et al at The Corner House, at which times I again thanked him for the substantial help he provided my parents during the many years they maintained our family home in Ardara. Hoping to return in September, but it will never be the same.
