I was shocked and saddened to hear of Stephen's passing. He was a kind and genuine man who made such a difference to so many people in Ardara. I have fond memories of playing music in the Corner House bar, and of meeting him at the Cup of Tae festival over the years. My deepest condolences to his wife, children and grandchild on their huge loss. May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.

You always got a big welcome from Stephen when you got up to Ardara for the weekend - usually standing adjacent to the Diamond or just inside the door of the Corner House. He made time to catch up, have some fun or say a kind word in times of loss. Stephen & Marietta welcomed every friend we brought from Dublin to visit home for which we always appreciated . Sincere sympathies to Marietta, Gemma, Steven & family. We are so saddened for your loss & his passing. ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam
Our deepest condolences to Marietta and children. We both remember Stephen as an always smiling and welcoming presence at the Corner House. In our last time there in July 2024 he brought out books showing the ancestry of the McNelis family (my Dads mother’s side). He was thoughtfully enthusiastic for us to know more about my family. Stephen liked when we got up for a quick jive and encouraged anything that added to the always lively atmosphere of the pub. I truly hope and pray Marietta, family and all of Ardara overcome their grief and somehow find peace.
Our deepest condolences to the McCahill family. We were shocked and saddened to hear the news. Stephen was always so kind to us when we were in Ardara. We will cherish our memories of Stephen during our wedding weekend. He was so kind to all of our friends and family. This past summer, we had the blessing to bring our two boys to the Corner House. Almost 20 years later, Stephen was still the most welcoming and friendly face. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with Marietta and the family.
On a memorable trip to beautiful Donegal in September 2022, we had the good fortune to bump into Stephen one evening in the Corner House. We mentioned that we were looking to do some cycling but had no bicycles. Stephen told us to leave the matter with him and to call in the next day which we did. True to his word when we arrived he had 2 bicycles waiting for us, sent us on our way with some local knowledge and a big smile .
We will never forget his kindness to us on that trip .
To his family and friends we offer our deepest sympathies.
Stephen , may you rest in eternal peace.

Deepest sympathies to Stephen and the Mc Cahill family.
The amount of good that Stephen has done for so many others is truly remarkable. He had a way of bringing people together, organizing and leading groups of people and also making you feel comfortable talking to him one on one. He cared so deeply about the needs of others and his community and was so humble about all he accomplished. In 2010 he organized a large family reunion in Ardara. My dad and I came over to Ireland from New York. We had such a wonderful time meeting and talking to cousins, viewing and studying the large family tree Stephen put together and all being together. That’s what Stephen did for so many, brought people together. He brought the experiences of West Donegal to others. To do so took time, it took patience and care. He created this joy and merriment for others, asking nothing in return but to see smiling faces, or to make a positive impact. My aunt and uncle, Maureen and Paddy O’Neill, enjoyed attending the Cup of Tae festival and my dad, Conal Gillespie, loved meeting up with Stephen when he could, chatting with Stephen on the phone, and hearing about Stephen’s undertakings and life in The Corner House Bar. He will be missed by our family. We are thinking of Marietta, Stephen, Gemma, Grainne and Peter and the whole community of Ardara and West Donegal and sending so much love.
