My sincere sympathy to the Stack family on the death of their father and brother, the late Stephen. I attended the Listowel National school in the 1950s with Stephen, and remember him for the short time he spent in St. Michael's in 1958. Two months ago, on Market street, 62 years on, as I walked behind him, I recognised Stephen, by his particular gangling walk. Calling his name, he immediately turned and recognised me. We chatted outside Whelans shoe-shop for the best part of half an hour, I recall his delight in telling me, how he never imagined that he would finish up living in Cahirdown Woods Estate, right across the road from the farm where he was born.
I now appreciate the opportunity for the time that we spoke, and remember Stephen as the smiling gentle giant that he always was , all those years ago.
May he rest easy.
