Steve was a great family man and a very good friend. Always very modest, it took me 60 years to discover that he was a wizard at cryptic crosswords. His sociability will be much missed.

So very sad to see this death notice for dear Steve (after Una's phonecall). Brings it home.

Steve was one of the kindest, nicest men I've had the pleasure to know. A fine man with great integrity, good wit and high intelligence. An understated modest man.

We first met in the Putney flat circa 1968 or 1969 when Una introduced us flat mates to Steve. He was instantly likable.

He leaves a loving family and many friends who will always remember him with warmth and love.

I'll see you all on 20th. A sad occasion but hopefully a good celebration of a life well-lived.
