I remember his parents Nora and Stevie Snr as great friends to our family in Mount Carmel Crescent Loughrea.Stevie and his sister Gabrielle were the essence of sophistication ,exactness and glamour as we were growing up as their neighbours 3 doors along the Crescent. I will always remember the Crofton family with great fondness and admiration. May Stevie's gentle soul rest in peace

My deepest Condolences to Rose, Niall and Brian, and the extended family, on Steve's sad passing.

I started in the CBS in 1965, and Steve taught us through to leaving Cert in 1970. An absolute gentleman and great teacher.

I used to meet Steve periodically at vintage rallies through the years. I had an old BMW 2002 he loved and we met at Tracy's the Heath, Portlaoise on several occasions.

Very sad to see him leave.
May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to the Crofton Family on Steve’s passing. He was my history teacher in CBS Roscrea for Leaving Cert 1968. I thought he was a wonderful teacher and a thorough gentleman. In latter years I met him in Roscrea Golf Club and he hadn’t changed a bit. It was a pleasure to know him. Rest in Peace Steve. 🙏🏻

He was a wonderful tennis player & as a teenager I used to enjoy watching him play in Nenagh & Birr tournaments.

I so enjoyed talking with him on Ballinakill club outings where we discussed cars, ways of helping our golf clubs, Roscrea & Athy and he expanded my history knowledge. We were very saddened to learn of Steve's passing. He was a wonderful man for enhancing the facilities in Roscrea, whether it was the St. Patrick's Day parade, or his tireless work in golf, tennis and badminton clubs in the town. He was also a fantastic school teacher to several generations in the town. I was also lucky enough to enjoy the odd pint with him in later years. Our sincere sypathies to Niall and Brian and to your mam Rose, to Mary and Orla and all Steve's grandkids. Steve has left his mark in the hearts and minds of many people in Roscrea and he will be sorely missed. May you rest in peace Steve. 🙏

To Stevie, my former teacher.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Stevie’s passing. He was far more than just a teacher to me; he was a true mentor who shaped not only my education but my outlook on life. As a teacher of history, Stevie had a remarkable gift for bringing the past to life. His lessons were never just about dates or events, but about understanding people, choices, and the lessons history teaches us about who we are and where we come from.

Through his passion for history, he inspired curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep respect for our shared past. His patience, encouragement, and genuine care for his students made a lasting impression that I will always be grateful for. He had a way of engaging everyone in the room, making learning meaningful and memorable, and his influence reached far beyond the classroom.

Stevie’s dedication, warmth, and quiet wisdom left a mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. The lessons he taught, especially his love of history and learning, will continue to live on through the many lives he influenced.

My heartfelt commiserations to Brian and Niall, and to all the Crofton family during this very difficult and painful time. May you find strength and comfort in the outpouring of love and in the many cherished memories shared with Stevie.
