Part One
Sincere condolences to Eamon, Peter & Jim, Mark & the wider family, our hearts go out to you at this time of immense loss.
Sue was a much loved member of the Newtown class of ‘86. We have been reconnecting over the past week to share our memories of Sue, our time in Newtown & be reminded of the steadfast bond of the Newtown family. The following words are a combination of everyone’s thoughts taken from all the various messages between her classmates…
We had been starting to make plans for our 40th year reunion next year. Sue was joining in the messaging, as people with long haul flights to book started to put the feelers out…
Sue was the one over the years who kept so many friendships going. She would always have snippets of news about us all to pass along…
It seemed like a single chat with Sue got us updates on at least half of the class & our chats were always something to look forward to…

Part Two
In school Shakin’ Steven’s, George Michael, Wham & Madonna played on repeat in the girls’ dorms & posters adorned her wall. We all knew the related trivia & the timing of any Top of the Pops appearances…
She had a warmth, a sparkle and a laugh that lit up every room. She was thoughtful, loyal & bubbly. She had such a sweet & kind soul & a word for everyone…
We remember her as a Gaeilgeoir, a fiddle player & an Irish dancer, with a special place in her heart for Gweedore…
We reminisce on school trips to Russia & The Burren & we can see Sue in our mind’s eye. We are reminded of her singing in a Russian school we visited & how heartfelt that performance was, chatting with the Russian students & sharing both cultures…

Part Three
We remember tuck boxes & which school dinners weren’t her favourites…
We remember her favourite classes & teachers & how happy she was when her son Peter went to Newtown. The joy & interest she took as a parent rejuvenated all her own school memories & in equal measure her classmates enjoyed hearing all the up to date school news she shared with us. She loved bumping into old scholars, from every year group, especially on the side of a pitch with other parents, cheering on their offspring…
Our year group is now spread out around the world & we are all so glad that a few of our classmates travelled to Waterford to say goodbye to Sue on behalf of us all.
Sleep well Sue. Slán go fóill agus go mbuailimid le chéile arís.

It is hard to believe that I am writing this for Sue. Sue was like family to me as our Newtown friendship kept steadfast throughout the years. Sue then chose me as Godmother to Jim & I became closer again to her beloved family. Sue was the most loyal friend & took such a great interest in all the achievements of my gang, never failing to remember & mark the milestones with me. She cherished keeping her friends close & even though life got in the way at times, I always admired the effort she put in to keep connections with friends near & far. She was the one with the news, keeping me up to date & as her memory was much better than mine she was great at reminding me of things I had forgotten!! I never got to tell her that I have taken up Gaeilge on Duolingo & I know she would have got a kick out of that & helped me to speak it again. She was so proud of Eamon, Peter & Jim, her wider family & her heritage. George, Sarah, Rachel & Ruth join me in sending our sincere sympathy. Sleep well Sue, until we meet again. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.
