Sincere condolences to the Hedigan family on the loss of Susan. She was a wonderful colleague to work with and helped so many in UCD - always with integrity, honesty and humour as well as her trademark silver jewelry tinkling. May she rest in peace.
Absolutely shocked and saddened to hear only today of Susan s sudden passing. I was in Spain the week it happened... otherwise I would have heard about it in the village. I worked with Susan in the Dairy Council and then we lived very near each other in Sandycove. Apart from socialising locally I always had herself and David join us at my daughters milestones.. communions, confirmations and debs drinks, 21sts. My eldest daughter in Vancouver was totally shocked when I told her earlier today ... she asked who s getting all her gorgeous silver jewellery..... Susan would have loved that.... ! The girls were fascinated with her jangling jewellery and her frog collection.
I m in 64 wine where we had lunch a couple of months ago.. raising a glass of champagne and celebrating her life... ended way to soon. My condolences to Kevin and his family...she adored Klara.
Sleep well Susan... you're back together with your darling husband David again.

I am so sorry to mark Susie’s passing and my condolences to the extended Gallagher and Hedigan families. I met Susie in Brussels in 1980. She and David soon became wonderful friends. They were most in their element telling stories around a dinner table. David’s passing 10 years ago was a huge blow for Susie. I am glad to see the acknowledgement from many colleagues and friends across UCD of the hugely important role she played there. It was a perfect role for her, helping people to connect with and gain from the Europe she loved and felt so much at home in. I am sorry to miss her sending off tomorrow as I am abroad but I hope all present will remember the good times and the great couple that were ‘Susie and David’

She was so well loved and respected by staff and graduate students across the University, and was always prepared to share her knowledge and wisdom to facilitate grant applications. I am very sorry to hear about this sad loss. Susan was a visionary in UCD, pioneering research support and grant-writing at the EU level when this was not yet on anyone's radar. Her knowledge of the political machinery in Brussels proved invaluable to the College of Science as she forged this path for the University. On top of this, Susan was a wonderful women, a larger-than-life personality, and one for great stories about the great and the good of Irish life. A great complement from Susan was to be called a "raconteur", one which I sadly never received, at least not to my knowledge! She would easily put Miles na gCopaleen in the h'alpenny place. A sad loss indeed. Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.
