I was honoured to serve with him in Cork County Council where his contributions were always informed, positive and far sighted. The progress of Cork and it’s people was truly his priority.
He was a friendly supportive colleague and will be remembered with great respect and affection.

As a reporter with The Southern Star, I found Sylvester to be at all times, a courteous and helpful public representative. He really gave a damn about Rochestown and South Cork and battled hard for his locality, especially at meetings of the Cork Rural Area Committee and the County Council. He was always straight and prepared to stand up for what he believed in. A man of integrity.

Every time I went to Cork, you always welcomed me into the office, and i remember our long chats with such fondness. In Nemo Rangers he was an iconic figure and the wonderful club grounds we enjoy today owe much to his leadership and determination. I have very fond memories of Sylvie’s passion for Nemo at meetings, pitches and the clubhouse! He had a lovely sense of humour. We will miss him. May Sylvester Rest in Peace.
