I'm a contemporary of Simeon's though we didn't know each other well. Sad to hear about Terry's passing, the man and his music were such a fond fixture memory of mine from 80s/90s Galway. RIP
This sad news brought back the 1980s to me as no trip to the Claddagh Palace cinema at Nile Lodge was complete without standing in the queue listening to Terry. What a voice and a presence.
Condolences to all his family.

I've just heard the news, too late to send a message before the funeral. I grew up with Terry since we were children. And later we played in bands, formed The Spalpeens in London and played the folk scene, running our own club. We made a record for CBS 'House of Delight'. Later, we came to Ireland and busked in Salthill, eventually having a residency at the Enda Hotel, Galway. I was there when Terry met Deirdre and when we recorded 'Sally-O' for Tribune Records. The band broke up, I returned to England and Terry stayed to become a local legend. I can't believe he's gone. I should have come over when I had the chance. My deepest sympathy, Deirdre.
So sorry to hear of Terry's death we will always cherish the memories of the sessions in the Cottage Bar with Terry and Mickey Finn may they rest in peace
Dear Sim and family,
It is not often in life you count yourself as a friend of two generations of the same family, but that's the kind of guy Terry was. I have such fond memories of shooting the breeze and shooting the pool with him in the Cottage pub in Lower Salthill, before he'd head up to the cinema to play a few tunes. He was such a free spirit, with such a love of the craic, I was later shocked to meet his son Sim, who is my age, at a party and to discover he was Terry's son! My own dad who passed away last year was rather more conventional and strict by comparison. Terry never had a bad word to say about anyone, got on with all of us, from the 18 year olds to the 60somethings, during a magic time in our lives. He loved music, fun, and family. And never took things too seriously. Isn't that the measure of a full life well lived? I would always ask Sim about him when we'd meet at a punk gig in Dublin and was sure I'd bump into him again some day. RIP Terry. Hopefully, some day soon I will have a drink in your honour with Simeon at some mad post-punk gig in Dublin! One of life's true gents.

Lovely man great voice never minded having to wait in line at the Estoria when Terry was playing and friendly welcome in the Cottage between shoe times. RIP
I first met him and Mickey Finn in The Cellar early in 1971. Later, they were regulars in the Cottage Bar. I recall their patience and encouragement of my stumbling attempts at the guitar: that was a life lesson, as was his gentle reminder that "there's more than one way to understand a song".
Terry's voice carrying the length of Shop St. or Lower Salthill - - he was the sound of Galway.
