[1/2] To Mam, Bridgie, Hannah, Margaret, Thomas & Sheila, we offer you our sincerest condolences. The care you provided to Granny has not gone unnoticed & you helped her achieve her wishes of staying in her own home for as long as possible.

No words can ever do the justice to the impact Granny had on everybody she encountered. From her jolly welcome at the back door (or front in later years) with her hearty Galway accent to her giddiness when looking to get news out of you! She always offered much encouragement to you to expand the family! Her one-liners & her facial expressions were legendary, and she suffered no fools. She had a wonderful ability to keep you grounded & you dare not ever bring an ego into her house.

So many happy memories in Killua particularly on school holidays when she looked after the Fox cubs so well. She helped instill many great qualities in us all particularly courtesy & generosity. Weekly trips to Navan Shopping Centre in the back of Hannah’s Golf were always looked forward to. We’d be ready to go two hours before our chauffeur landed! Granny loved sitting on the benches watching people, greeting friends new & old. There was always a pound for a bag of chips before heading home.

We always loved looking at her array of family photos in the sitting room even if we weren’t supposed to be poking around up there! The exercise bike was also off limits. Allegedly The Fox’s would “break, tear & tatter” everything so she’d no faith in us not to wreck it!
2/2 continued

Granny loved to chat about current affairs and was never shy of an opinion as she popped her head up from the Irish Independent. You learned that it was easier to agree with her opinion than to offer an alternative! Weather was also a popular topic and “do you think we’ll have snow” could be asked at any time of the year!

Watching her make her famous brown bread was a thing of beauty. No measurements taken as the routine was a well-oiled machine. There was always a loaf of two passed over to Knocklough and many’s a belly was full before getting the school bus.

No matter what ailment Granny she was always more concerned about other people’s wellbeing. As bad as things were for her in Ballinalsoe hospital over Christmas, her biggest concern on the day we visited was how early Teagan needed to be up for school in the morning!

It’s difficult to talk about Granny in the past tense and not imagine her drinking a cup of tea out of her best china at the bottom of the kitchen table. I feel eternally blessed to have had her in my life for so long and that she got to meet and know her Great Granddaughters, Teagan and Lucia. Her memory will live on and she leaves a wonderful legacy behind. Our Galway Girl may be gone for now but never forgotten xxx

Peter, Tanya, Teagan & Lucia
