The Man Behind the Camera

Whirr, shutter, click - never the prime focus.
Master of arithmetic, hoping to go unnoticed.
Emphasis on the subject - attention over there
Every word deliberate, always taking care.

Ballygoley was always in your heart
From you came home each summer
To roam Sliabh na gCloch with brothers in arms,
Never a newcomer.

Comradery, freedom and fresh air
Was a shift from The Big Smoke
Born independent you took the boat
Home to the country folk

Was it immigration or emigration when you left the BBC?
You left your friends for Ballygoley to play cards with all of thee
Backgammon was our favourite game - you taught us all with patience
“A virtue” Granny always said considerate and gracious

Ireland had it all it seemed except a good Indian curry
And many a friend from London who missed your good company.
So you returned on occasion to visit those you held so dear
A glass of red wine and a coffee once perhaps a year

You were master of your craft
When you filmed our every move.
You captured us at our best and worst
You taught us all you knew

An unassuming ‘gentle’ man
You were calm and still and kind
Your thoughtfulness will be remembered most
Much more than meets the eye

As I end this thought I know there’s so much to say,
But I’ll know that you’ll be here with us each and every day.
I know that you’re at peace now, in a place where you are free.
Meet me at the Pearly Gates when heaven calls for me.
— Sarah

I was virtually stunned to hear of Terry's Passing and I wish to extend the hand of love to all of his family members and friends at this sad time. Terry, in my opinion, was "a quiet giant" and a brilliant bridge player. In his unobtrusive way he worked tirelessly in setting up and monitoring The Dundalk Bridge Club's internet teething difficulties. He played an exciting and unusual game of bridge. To Emmet, his beloved partner in Bridge, I send my deepest condolences. Your game will NEVER be the same without him
