I was very saddened to learn of Mr. Deane’s passing. I knew Mr. Deane during my time as a pupil of the Old Borough N.S. where he was a member of the board and the local parish priest. He often would stop in to read us bible passages and discuss the parallels to our own lives and the lessons to be learned. He always showed great encouragement towards us as students both academically and extracuricularly. He was the heart and soul of St. Columba’s parish and led his parish strongly through times of uncertainty, when the church was not fit for purpose. He was a true gentleman who had great kindness and wit, that impacted everyone he met. He will be truly missed but always remembered fondly. My deepest condolences to his wife Anne, daughter Sarah and the rest of his family.
