Re: Dr Thomas McMurry, RIP

Nicholas McMurry communicated the sad news of the passing of Professor T. Brian H. McMurry to the Department.
Dr Thomas McMurry, as he was then known, was an invaluable resource person and foundation staff of the Chemistry Department of the University of Lagos, Nigeria in the mid-1960s. And he remained in contact with some members of the Department while at Trinity College Dublin.
His contributions to the Chemistry Department and the University of Lagos, as a whole, remain indelible.
We offer our sincere condolences to his wife, children and family, and pray for the repose of his soul.
Prof. O. O. Ayejuyo
"Oh Death! Where art thy victory... where art thy sting"?!
Professor Brian McMurry was like a father to me.
We kicked it off after a chance meeting at a Talk he delivered; only to realise that he'd worked briefly at my alma mater before my birth!
He even took me to my first Royal Academy Ireland lecture.
Prof was ever willing to lend an ear and volunteer counsel. A teacher, gentleman and human being. He will be sorely missed.
My heartfelt commiserations to Sara, Andrew and Nicholas, and the "McMurry Clan." May the soul of Brian and the souls of all the Faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
Adieu TBH!
I am saddened to hear of the death of Brian McMurry, may he rest in peace.
Brian McMurry was an excellent human being. I first met him when he was involved on the board of the Overseas club in Harcourt Terrace in the 1970's. He had a passion of support for students from the third world Countries. Over the last 15 years or so I got to know him much better and often discussed matters of common interest in the College's Senior Common room. He had a great understanding of especially the past workings of TCD. For a very long time, as the Senior most Senior Fellow of the College, he was number 3 in the then College hierarchy. He remained number 3 for over a decade, where numbers 1 and 2 changed as per the statutes of the College. In his capacity as the Senior Fellow he was a permanent member of the Board of TCD for perhaps close to two decades. His knowledge of the statutes surpassed anyone else that I knew then.

He excelled in academics as well as in administrative duties and he was also extremely generous with his time. He will be surely missed in the College. My condolences are for the family and the friends of Professor T B H McMurry and I shall personally miss him very much.
