I remember Thomas at school - in the nineteen forties, early fifties - though he was several classes below, being several years younger, because he was surpassingly gentle and was thus an exemplar to us all whether older or younger though we may not have been conscious of this. People blesssed with that quality have a positive unspoken influence not always recognised. But then, I also learned, during my occasional visits to Tarbert that he was an accomplished, traditional musician, revealing his soul on the stirring strings and being heard and heeded..
