Very sorry to hear of the passing of ‘Mr Ted'. My deepest sympathy to all the family. Not only was he a highly adept sailor but he was also a most skilful navigator in the choppy, ever turbulent waters of the changing world, that has been newspapers for well over half a century. He was very grounded, practical and fair. In 1865 his great grandfather, also Thomas, was the first to disclose on this side of the world that the American Civil War was over sailing out from Cobh to meet incoming Liners from the US. As inheritor of this proud tradition of providing speedy and informed news Ted passed on these values to his staff. It was a ship we were all privileged to have crewed on.

On the many occasions I met him over a lifetime, he was always a pleasure meet and enjoy his company, wit and vast knowledge on so many topics. His heart was as large as his smile and he never failed to enrich those who were lucky enough to meet him in any surrounding. Surely one of Corks greatest sons!

So sad to hear of Ted’s passing and our deepest sympathy to the extended Crosbie family. We have wonderful memories of time spent in his hugely entertaining company, in particular during the Opera 2005 tours. He will most definitely be missed but never forgotten. May he rest in peace.

When I heard that Ted Crosbie had died all I could think of was that splendid line from Hamlet, "Now cracks a noble heart". Ted was a noble heart, he loved his city and never missed an opportunity to support any endeavor to enhance the civic life of Cork. He was a supporter of everything cultural, theatre, ballet and music in all its forms. A loyal supporter of the Opera House, he brought Placido Domingo to Cork as a highlight of Cork's year as European Capital of Culture. Few will ever forget that glorious voice under the stars in the Barrack Square of Collins Barracks. Angels guard thee Ted. I send my fondest sympathies to all the members of Ted Crosbie's family.
