I wish to extend my sincere condolences to all the Kelly family on the passing of Tommy. Back in the mid-1970s, in my days of callow youth, thumbing my way back to Mounbellew on Sunday evenings, Tommy often gave me a lift as he made his regular visits back to his native Dysart. Not only did we travel the meandering roads of south Roscommon on those journeys, in our conversations he brought me on part of that frightful journey he had also travelled in that “crazy Asian War”. Rest in peace soldier - your earthly battle is over.
