Dear Eamonn, Louise, Ann and Pat and all the extended McSherry family.

I was very sorry to hear of Tom's death. When we were kids, I remember Tom and Eileen visiting us frequently. There'd be lots of laughter and memories and the odd serious discussion, mostly political. I learned a lot more over the years as we visited Tom or he joined us for family events. And a few things I only learned at Tom's funeral! He was so proud of his children's achievements and later on he'd always tell us about those of his grandchildren as well. He loved to tell a good joke or regale us with funny stories from his everyday experiences. He didnt mind saying it like it was either. It was lovely that Tom and Mam kept in touch after Dad died, maintaining an important connection..... Tom and Eileen had schemed together in the early 1960's to introduce their respective friends John and Kitty. How wonderful that connection lasted a lifetime. There will definitely be a Tom-shaped hole in many people's lives and he will be very sadly missed. Deirdre x

Dear Cousins-
I am so sad to hear of Uncle Tom’s passing. He was a wonderful man and I always enjoyed seeing him when he came to the U.S. It was a joy to sit and talk with him.

Two memories I will share with you—

The first time he came to see us at your Aunt Mary Jo’s house in Louisiana, it seemed that I was the only one (besides my mother) that could understand his accent. My sisters kept asking him to repeat himself. He finally looked at me, rather exasperated, and said “am I not speaking English?” My sisters did not understand that either. They just looked at him with blank stares. We had a good laugh about that every time we got together.

The second memory, and I have a photo of this somewhere, we took your Dad out to one of the plantation homes in the rural area of where I live. They were giving demonstrations of cooking and life during the US civil war era. They asked your Dad if he wanted to fire a musket. He picked the gun up and I swear, it was as long as he was tall. He fired the thing and was pleased as punch with himself! If I find the picture again, I will send it to you all.

Please know I loved your Dad and will miss him. You, your children, and grandchildren are in my thoughts and prayers. I am deeply sorry for your loss.

Love to you all-
Cousin Ann

To Eamonn, Louise, Ann, Pat and families,

I am so sad and so sorry about Tom's passing. He was definitely one of a kind. Tom was a great conversationalist with a wonderful sense of humour. No topic was off limits for discussion and chats. He liked to stir the pot and even more so to talk about having done it! I loved hearing his stories - always told with a gleam in his eye and a sense of mischievousness. I will miss Tom very much. Love to you all at this difficult time. Emer.

We were deeply saddened to hear of Tom's passing, and wanted to express our heartfelt condolences to Toms family during this difficult time.

Having known Tom as a neighbour for over 30 years, we can say he was truly a wonderful man. He was always so pleasant and friendly, the kind of person who would brighten your day with a smile or a kind word.

His love for his garden was something we always admired - the care and pride he took in sweeping the leaves or washing his car.

We will miss seeing him out there for our friendly chats or just a wave. Forest Walk simply won't be the same without him.

Sleep tight Tom

Lots of love
