Dear Maureen, James, Brendan, Sally, Aine, Maria, Declan and family, sending deepest condolences to you all. So very sad to hear of Tom’s passing, he was such an important part of our lives especially when growing up, a pure force of nature with a laugh that could light up not only rooms but lives and so genuinely kind hearted. Many happy days were spent as children piling into his car destination unknown but great times to be had. His storytelling is rightly legendary but I will always remember him for noticing the little things, and for taking time to offer a few words of support and encouragement when needed along the way. I worked with Tom Joe in Flemings Garage where he sold and repaired Zetor tractor.
A charismatic and funny guy and great storyteller he often recalled a trip test driving a motorbike with his good friend Tom sitting behind. They drove up Racecourse hill and the bike was a bit more powerful than Tom Joe thought and he lost Tom on take off. He didn’t realise his passenger was missing until he looked back from top of the hill and saw Tom pulling himself out of the briers. Health and safety was an issue then.
