I was shocked and saddened to hear the news about Tom yesterday. You will recall my visit to Grange with my aunt Aileen and my cousin Isseult.

Aileen was well into her 90s and her only wish was to visit, one last time, the place from where her father Michael O’Hara had come. In particular, Aileen wished to stand beside Shadlough Lake, a place which held very special childhood memories for her.

Nothing could have prepared me for the warmth of the welcome we received from Tom, yourself and Ciaran.

Having reminisced over a sumptuous lunch with produce from the farm, you produced a pair of pink children’s wellies for Aileen and off we all set, through the fields, to the lake. From that day on Aileen would speak of nothing else but Grange and yourselves.

That is a day I will never forget for the beauty of the place and the generosity, pure goodness and kindness of Tom, yourself and Ciaran. It gave me such a sense of pride in my own roots in Grange through my grandfather.

My deepest condolences to you all on the sudden loss of Tom, a kind, gentle man. May he now rest in the peace he so richly deserves.

It was both an honour and a pleasure to know and work alongside Tom through Community Games. A true gentleman in every sense, Tom served with dedication as former Chairman of Roscommon Community Games, and as a valued member of the County Executive and Appeals Committee. He was fair, calm, and always kind—someone you could count on, whether it was marking out the athletics track or offering wise guidance. His quiet leadership, humility and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Tom will be deeply missed. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace and may God comfort you all at this sad time.
