Tom Treacy and I were the outliers in the first ever Irish degree course in Computer Science. We both shared last and second last place in the TCD final exams. But the use by us of ICL computers (Irish Sugar Co. and Guinness) meant we were strangers to the IBM world of TCD and the rest of the class. Anyway Tom was a down to earth practical systems man and he was good at analysis and design. As for logic, Turing machines, PL/1, etc. Tom was not too impressed but he cleared the bar. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
