Sincere sympathy to all the family from Margaret and family
It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of Tommy Shine in recent days. I offer my sincere and deepest sympathy to his wife and family, to his brothers and sisters and especially to Paraic, Mary and Anne, and the extended Shine and Grehan Families at this sad time for you all.
Remembering Tommy Shine as a son of the old Battery Community of the 50’s and 60’s during his youth. As a young man during his early school and developing year Tommy suffered a life changing freak accident on his bicycle resulting in the loss of an eye, a shattering experience for a young man to endure in his early life, and which he carried it with great dignity and endurance. Tommy got on with life. Notwithstanding his difficulties in securing good employment in Ireland at the time, Tommy was forced to emigrate to England to work in construction and manufacturing, which he did for many years.
Meeting and greeting Tommy Shine many times since returning to Athlone, he remained a man of few words who lived his retirement years in his home town with great dignity .
