So sorry to hear about Tommy’s passing. When I started in the Irish Press in October 1980 Tommy took me under his wing and showed me all I needed to know about the work. I will be always grateful to him. A true gentleman. RIP.

You are part of my childhood memories Mr Smyth, of a happy safe haven to play with good neighbours that would look out for you. Always out tending to your garden chilled and relaxed.
In later years I'd see you and John Caplis chatting away, putting the world to rights over the garden wall.
