Thomas (Tommy) Whittle

Cathal, Annemarie and the whittle family. My thoughts are with you at this very sad and difficult time. Cathal, I know your dad received wonderful care from your family and was surrounded by their loving presence throughout his illness. That is such a comfort and a gift for any human being in their final months, weeks and days of life and testament to how much you all loved him. I know your dad was a community man, and the heartbeat of Donard. He will be truly missed by the whole community. Sending you my very deepest condolences and love.

I last saw Tommy in the early 50's being my first cousin I always kept in touch through my family in Ireland and of course by meeting his sister Mary when she made a visit to Denver, Colorado.
Tommy, left this world a far better place than he found it and God has rewarded him with the highest blessings. RIP.

Sincere sympathy to Bridget and all the family on the death of Tommy. A larger than life character who transcended the generations, Tommy was synonymous with Donard. A gifted raconteur, he was widely known and respected. Intelligent and sociable he in turn knew and remembered everyone. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal agus go dtuga Sé sólás dá mhuintir.

Many lifts were shared between the families when my sisters and Tommy’s daughters were boarding in the Presentation Convent in Mountmellick.
My memory of Tommy is of an upright and very genuine person to meet. I especially remember meeting him when he was involved in the Warbler Fly eradication scheme.
