How sad, Tom, my good old friend is gone. My deepest sympathies and condolences now are with you the family.
I had the pleasure of meeting Tom in the early 1980s as a German journalist visiting Ireland. Since then we met again and again. He not only showed me Ireland, gave me valuable advice, let me understand the Irish soul, but also how life can be mastered and enjoyed with decency, respect, humour and fun.
I owe him so many wonderful memories that will never fade.
Our unforgettable last common trip of nearly a week long together with our German collegue and friend Brunhilde across the always amazing beautiful Emerald Isle, including the Ring of Kerry, took place in January 2014. Yet we kept in touch until the end.
And now, Tom, you are in God's kingdom with the other methusalems, exploring a new world. Very, very sad to lose you. Thank you for everything, I will always miss you, farewell! R.I.P.

It's so sad to hear of the passing of Tom a good friend of the family since the early 60's when he called on a regular basis to see my late father Hugh in Leitrim. Tom was a great supporter of the small farmers and set up many support groups. Met him on a regular basis in Earlsford Tce before we moved to the Farm Centre . Tom had a great interest in people and different languages so much so that even in retirement he was brought on the IFA/FBD SCHOLARSHIP TOUR .
