Sorry to hear of the passing of Tom. We remember with fondness the many sociable chats we had on the road with your dad in the Coppins
Heartfelt condolences dear Brian and Mary J. , Hugh, Sara, Briony, Tim and his beloved grandchildren on the passing of Tom. What a lovely gentleman. Though the occasion was sad, I have fond memories of the last time we met in Curraghgloss after the funeral of Mary J.'s and my father, Pat - Tom was gentleness -and style - personified as he approached his 90th birthday.
Though the last few years brought him ill health, he could not have been more cared for or cherished as he was by you all. What a great blessing for him and a comfort, for you, I hope, in the days ahead.

Tom was my research supervisor, mentor, and colleague at UCD. He was excellent in all these roles: an inspiring and engaging teacher, who was always welcoming, courteous, kind, generous of his time, and supportive. I fondly remember our chats, including of cinema and his hillwalking pursuits. May his gentle Soul Rest In Peace.
Great memories of you Tom and I know you will rest in peace.Thank you for all your kindness to me.

My sincere condolences to the Widdis family at this sad time: to my gentle, kind and supportive son-in-law Brian and to his beloved sister and brother, Sara and Hugh. I offer my sympathies also to Tim and Briony and to Tom’s niece Rachel and his nephews David and Stephen. I am particularly mindful of Tom’s adored grandchildren; Rose, Corin, Darwin and Ella on the loss of their loving “Grandpa Tom. ” And sending love and hugs especially to my daughter, Mary J who was so fond of Tom and who considers herself so blessed to be part of the Widdis clan.
Tom was always so warm and pleasant. He and Fionnuala were the perfect in-laws: hospitable and generous in their own home, courteous and appreciative guests in ours.
Farewell Tom. Rest in peace. Be assured that you and your beloved Fionnuala have done the very best of jobs and have left behind a family of which you can justly be proud.
