Timothy Crowe

I knew Tim from the age of 4/5. We lived on the same road. We had a fantastic childhood… street games, sports in back-gardens, Monopoly (poker later). And juvenile anti-social behaviour…knocking on neighbours’ doors and beating a hasty retreat! Tim was irrepressible, mischievous, and absolutely lovable. One incident will remain with me forever. We were probably7/8 years of age. Larry was a local milk delivery man who serviced our street. His large urn was mounted on a horse-drawn cart and he would stop at his customer’s houses, dispensing milk via the little tap at base of the urn. But when it came to our house the stop was slightly longer… we had a live-in home help, Mona, a young girl from Tipperary, and Larry always paid a visit to our kitchen for a cup of tea and a chat! On this occasion I burst into the kitchen and blurted out…’Mona, you’ll never guess what Timmy done!’ Mona replied... ‘Paul, that’s not proper English. What you should have said is ‘you’ll never guess what Timmy did’, whereupon Larry enquired as to what Timmy had done’! I stammered... ‘he turned on the tap on Larry’s milk cart.’ Well, Larry would have won any 100-yard dash for the speed with which he bolted from our kitchen only to find his milk streaming down the street and Tim already long gone from view!

Tim never lost his mischievous streak. It was an endearing trait. Gone but not forgotten. Rest In Peace dear friend. Thoughts and prayers with Miriam, Conor, Rory, and siblings Morgan, James, Mary.
