Tom D'ARCY

Tom was my lecturer in College, not only did he mind us then , but kept in contact for a couple of years afterwards to see how we were doing. My condolences to his family, may he Rest in peace x

I was in Carlow RTC in 1985 to 1986 on a Healthcare course and Tom was one of my tutors. He was one of the best in the college, treating us like interesting and intelligent equals. Thinking back, I now think he was a Renaissance man - creative, enlightened, deeply curious and with a very particular and memorable sense of humour! In these ways he really stood out. I never forgot him and I regret not staying in touch. I'm so sorry that he has moved on and I hope you are getting all the love and support you need. I'm having a little cry here, very sad that he has gone and very grateful that I knew him, briefly and long ago, but his impact was long-lasting.

I did the Health and Physiology course in the RTC. Tom was a great educator. In all his subjects his gift was to encourage and get people to open their eyes, see broader horizons and dare to go further than they thought they might.

I was a health sciences student in Carlow RTC in the 1990's and I learned a lot about psychology and human behaviour from Tom. We were a naïve bunch compared to the undergrads of today, and Tom's lectures were 'eye opening'. I still remember his lectures on Freud's Oedipus Theory that stunned us all into silence. I think he got a kick from our reactions, and he'd laugh about it and buy you a pint in Tully's on your birthday. Someone else said he was ahead of his time and I agree; I think it was around 1995 that he told us all that we should see a therapist at least once a year!

He helped a lot of young people progress on to careers in health & sport, myself included, and I will always be grateful for his help. My condolences to Kieran, Kevin and all of Tom's family. May he rest in peace

I knew Tom from attending with my children for Career Guidance. I would like to extend my sympathies to the family and friends of Tom. Tom was such a lovely man and always made my children believe they could achieve anything in life. He was funny and so witty and had a glint in his eye. He had a wide expanse of knowledge and was inspirational. I will always think of Tom when I pass that lovely house in Cloghan. RIP
