I think I first met Tom and Marie at the Spiddal gatherings back in the 80s, through our mutual friend Mary Malloy. It was the highlight of many trips to Ireland. Such warmth, friendliness and generosity I'll never forget. It was deservedly a lovely mass and crematorium service today, I only wish I could have been there. I'm sure he's now reunited with Marie and many other loving friends. God bless you Tom and RIP. 💞💞

A gentleman, quiet, helpful, kind, generous.
Thoughtful, empathetic, funny, hardworking.

Often with that warm smile and twinkling eyes.
A man much respected and loved by so many.

Tom - we will miss your lovely guitar playing and gentle voice as you sing.
And I wish again, that we might see, you pull a bow across a fiddle string.

It’s been said you were a talented musician and yes, that is true.
But as each of us does know - Tom, you were so very much more!

To reflect, on happy days, the music memories will linger.
And in the heart, for us who hold him there, then Tom lives on.


I am sad not to have been able to come over for Tom's funeral. Over the years in Ireland and Scotland we played much music together but, more than that, he was just such a great friend to have. I would have liked to have joined in on my fiddle with all those playing music in tribute to him. Watching the service (and at many other times) I have heard so many beautiful things said about Tom. Therefore, my wee tribute is to echo these words through my poem. 35 years is a long time to be friends with someone but with Tom that was very easy to do. Words from a Trad song have kept coming to my mind. He was a man you don't meet every day. My heartfelt condolences to all his family and friends x

Sorry to hear the bad news. We had great times in Belgium years ago. Those ceilids were fantastic. He was a great musician.

Such sad sad news . To all of Tom's family and friends, my heart is broken . Tom was such a gorgeous soul - gentle, funny, compassionate and so so talented. He had so much love for everyone in his life and we were all affected by him. The memories I have with him, with his Spiddle-dee-di-dee sessions and gatherings, what fun we all had! Whether it was more recently in the Galway sessions or in Ballyvaughan, we all had so much fun and laughter. Tom, you'll be up there playing tunes with Ned and Maria in that magic session in the stars. I'll really miss you. xx

I will never forget the welcome and help he gave me when I moved in Spiddal. A kind and generous soul with a deep sense of integrity and loyalty. With his music he will always be in my heart.

I have extremely happy memories of Tom as he played for us set dancers in Oranmore, Galway city and all over the county as well as in Belgium (Brusels, Louvain, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges) and Spain (Benalmádena & Torremolionos) where he Ita, Tom and Patsy had our feet tapping to great music.
Always great company, he will be sorely missed.
