I am very sorry to hear of the sad passing of Tom. My sincere condolences to Rita and all the Gillen family. I had the privilege of working with Tom in the Department of Education in the early nineties. He was a true gentleman, always very supportive to me and a highly effective civil servant. I first met Tom many years ago in the Department of Education, he was a lovely gentleman to work with, always kind and helpful. Later, we met again over the years in various parish and community groups around Dundrum, he always had a smile and a cheery hello. I had the privilege of knowing Tom through his work for the Irish School of Ecumenics and we often chatted at meetings in the old Bea House, Milltown Park. I was very saddened by the news of Tom's death. I had the privilege of working very closely with him on a number of Department of Education projects and learned an enormous amount from this very special human being.
Tom was a man of great ability and integrity and it was always a pleasure to spend time in his company.
