When I was a young man he was my hero. As full back he was master of all he played against. All the “home “ countries” and France.
Later as a sports administrator and as President of IRFU he was a colossus in Irish sport. He helped to fashion all sport in Ireland to a new level. Without him we would not be where we are today.
I invited him to address the officers of Carrigdhoun GAA. Without hesitation he gave us generously of his time.
I was honored to be his friend.

Dear Maree and Cameron and family,
I wish to offer my sincere sympathy on Tom's passing. We go back a long way from the Cricket Club and Moremiles in Coachford to the present. You can be justifiably proud of all the wonderful tributes he is receiving, none better than in Friday's Irish Times by Gerry Thornley, with whom he did'nt always see eye to eye! It has been a great privilege to have known Tom and hopefully to have been counted as one of his many friends. May he rest in peace.

It was with great sadness that we learnt of Tom's passing. On behalf of everybody associated with the Club I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to Tom's wife Maree and all the Kiernan family. Tom was a Life Member of the Club and always took a keen interest in its affairs and the game of cricket in general. He was a regular attendee at our annual dinner with his great friend Jim Fitzgerald.
