Tom LOOBY

I only recently heard about Tom's passing. Tom was a great teacher with a real interest in politics. He could at times be persuaded in class to digress and talk about the lack of taxation among farmers vs the heavily squeezed PAYE sector!
To this day as a teacher I use occasional phrases of his.

I was so sorry to hear of Tom's death Eileen. Sincere sympathy to you and all the family. May he rest in peace

I only just learnt of Toms' passing. My condolences to all the family.

As a past pupil of his, I have fond memories of his commerce classes. I can say that he was one of the few teachers I came across that made me feel like I mattered.

Tom was an absolute gentleman and in the days of corporal punishment, his corrections took the mildest form. He would approach the misbehaving student and catch them by the shoulder of their coat, and then shake them from side to side while exclaiming, "I'm gonna rough you up fella".

He also enjoyed military history and I brought in more than one book on the British / Zulu Wars which helped us all get through the occasional class harmoniously.

Noreen, I was very sorry to hear that your lovely Dad has passed away. May he rest in peace. My condolences to you and your family.

Mr Loobys deep voice put some shivers up my spine as a student when he used to say " come on now fellas I want a bit of ACTION around here."
Some decades later I got chatting to Tom in the Rivercourt Hotel and he laughed when I explained above. Quite funny when he said we'll have a bit of Action here tonight and bought me a couple of pints topped off with great conversation.
