My deepest sympathy to Céline, Deirdre, Darragh, Donal, Desmond, Tadhg, Peggy and all the Mac Intyre family. A great playwright. Michael Holohan, Aosdána
Celine I have only just read of Tom's passing. I am so very sorry for your sad loss.
My sympathies on your great loss. I was lucky enough to have had this extraordinary man as an English teacher - too briefly- in the 1960's. His was the only class I looked forward to — even depended on, to stay sane— in what Aidan Higgins called 'the dump', and I was not alone.
Wickedly laconic in his approach to the conventions of the curriculum, Tom encouraged us to read for the joy of the thing and to hell with authority, received opinion and all the rest of it.
His electrifying performances at the lectern — eye winker, tom tinker —were masterclasses in irony, sedition and understatement, and the fact that they were happening in the regimented confines of a religious boarding school made them all the more powerful and liberating. And fun.
A lovable man, a great teacher and a poet in a current of his own.

Condolences to all of Toms' family. Sorry I can't be with you today. He certainly left a great legacy in Deirdre Darragh Donal Desmond and Tadhg. Had some great conversations with him over the years about Cavan football and footballers in the 40's and 50's. The Beekeeper is gone.
My deepest sympathy to Celine and all the family.
my condolences on your loss tom was my english teacher in min 60s he was different in manner dress and in a place where regimented routine was the order of the day, his entry to our classroom was always cherished we called him slick tom mac in todays jargon he would be kool he encouraged us to be different and be yourself his main philosophy in writing was " the use of capital letters, punctuation marks etc was a complete waste of ink" and some of us have stuck to this form my classmates have commented following toms death a kool guy a unique teacher loved his class beautifully irreverent his class was the highlight of the day my favorite teacher with our fondest memories of slick tom mac.
Deepest sympathy to all Tom's faimly and friends, expecially at this time his wife Celine, all his children and their mother Peggy.
Fading memories of Tom's benign presence around Doobally and Redhills in the late 70's and early 80's. Later around Cavan at book launches when I soldiered with Noel in Kilmore and gave him the odd spin. Wonderful man of letters, good soul and inspiration to many. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends. Last time I met him was with Healy and Harding and Hickey in the Farnham. Sweet memory. Carpe Diem.
Celine - deepest sympathy on the loss of your soulmate Tom.
