We convey our deepest sympathies to you Brid and family on Tom's passing. We knew the Murrays from our close proximity across the Nore in Montore.
Born in 32, the year of the Eucharist Congress, and on the passing of his father in the mid 50's, Tom and his siblings must carry on with the challenges in agriculture of the fledgling new state.
Tom was the last of the men who followed the draught horse, with plough and iron-harrow, setting the swing and coulter to cut and balance the team. We remember Tom on bicycle leading his mare by winkers to Bartons for cover.
The Fair Day made Tom a craftsman of the deal, to judge , classify and value the Hereford or Shorthorn. When Tom married Brid around 1970, it will bring the ancient families of the Sheedys, Bergins, Murray and Doughan together. They buy into his aunt's homestead, Mullallys on the Oldcastle road, and bets all on the fresian cow and the Whitehead bull.
