Very sorry to hear of Tom's passing. Always a pleasure to meet him when he came to visit his sister Rita in the NH or indeed in the Mary I choir. Met him on Nicholas Street a few weeks ago, he was smiling and gracious as usual. Condolences to Vera and Family and may his gentle soul rest in peace.

He was curious of his family history, Irish language and loved to share his love of his country with others. He took our family out on many occasions to help us discover the beauty of Ireland.

I met Tom last November and it was a pleasure to be in his company on a holiday in Tenerife. A very gentle, kind & thoughtful gentleman. May his gentle Soul Rest in Peace. I will be praying g for you all at this difficult time.

Tom was acutely aware that many children with behavioural and mental health problems were not being adequately cared for by the Departments of Health and Education. When he became aware of the growing recognition in other countries (especially the United States) of the existence of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and their adoption of remedies to address this problem, he worked incessantly to ensure Ireland did likewise. He was the founder of the Mid-West ADD group and under his chairmanship, the group provided great support to families whose children suffered from this condition.
They were instrumental in persuading TDs and Senators to adopt an Oireachtas Report on ADHD in 1999.
None of this would have happened without the foresight, dedication and commitment of Tom Naughton. His outstanding contribution persuaded officialdom not only to become aware of the existence of ADD and ADHD but also to introduce appropriate measures to address it. He greatly improved the lives of many families whose children were suffering from these conditions.

Sincere sympathy to Vera and family on the death of Tom, a true gentleman and great company. I got to know Tom in the late 90s through the Limerick ADD group. He was a tireless worker and great leader for this group. May Tom rest in peace.
