Tom Octigan

My sympathy and condolences to Tom's nephews and nieces on his sad passing.
Your uncle Tom was a much revered friend of my family in Feamore, and I have fond memories of growing up there with our good neighbours, the Octigans. Although known to most people as Tom or Tommy - my mother always called him Thomas - but to us kids he was Top Octigan. It seems when we were toddlers we couldn't say Thomas, so Top it was then. I hadn't seen him for over forty years until I visited him in GWNH about four years ago and when we met I said "Hello Top"; his face lit up with a broad grin and he said "jeez that's what the kids called me". He was a lovely, quiet and polite man, and he was a true gentleman.
Another of the great men born and bred in The Wood, has gone to his final resting place.

I had the pleasure of knowing Tom from visiting Gormanston Woods nursing home.He loved the chats and the sugar free chocolate I used to bring him.He was a lovely lovely man and I’m sorry I didn’t get to visit him more in recent times.Once my mam passed and COVID regulations came along it wasn’t as easy to.I often thought of him though and was sad to hear he had passed.Rest in peace now Tom.
