My deepest and sincere condolences to all Tom's family and friends. I was one of Tom's running adversaries and friends and ran against him years ago. I was very sad to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to Ian and family on the loss of Tom. He inspired many through his athletic and journalistic endeavours. He and Jerry Kiernan were Kerry’s greatest athletes who both gave back so much to the sport after they’d hung up their runners. Hopefully they meet in the afterlife and can identify Kerry’s next great athletic talent.

Sincere sympathy. to Toms family on his passing. He pipped me for the 1 mile Senior title in 1956 at Duggan Park Ballinasloe at the All Ireland Schools Championships. I was competing for Castleknock College and he was for Tralee CBS ( I think )

My deepest commiserations to all the O'Riordan family. Above his excellence as a runner and a writer, and I'm sure a husband and father and grandfather, he was an excellent man. When I started on the freelance beat, Tom nearly held my hand and I made a beeline for him when I spotted him in the press box. And we shared the stresses of multi-jobbing to a deadline. When we discovered a shared interest in horse racing, it only got better. I have always enjoyed Ian sharing photos from days of yore, most of them of Tom running. They just always engendered a feeling of real happiness in me, and always, the thought - 'what a sound man, a real and proper gentleman.' I was better for knowing Tom and working along side him up and down the country for a few years and I hope there is consolation for you in having had him for much longer. Very Sorry to hear the news of Tom's passing. He was a legend of Irish Athletics and Sports Journalism and always an enthusiastic supporter of Irish Athletes. I know that Donal and Ian were always very proud and full of admiration and love for him. An inspiration I would say. I am sorry I couldn't make it to the funeral to celebrate his life. I send my deepest sympathies to the whole O'Riordan Family. Gone but never forgotten!

Very Sorry to hear the news of Tom's passing. He was a legend of Irish athletics and Journalism and always very enthusiastic and supportive of Irish Athletes. Unfortunately, I was away on Holidays when I heard the news and I was sorry I could not attend the funeral in Person. I offer my deepest Sympathies to The O'Riordan Family, May he rest in peace. Ian I'm so sorry to hear about the sad passing of your Dad, in my late teens his writings on athletics were inspirational to me and many others, later when i was fortunate enough to travel in his company i found his chats very motivational, Thinking of you at this very difficult time.
