Sincere sympathy to Jimmy and his family on the death of Tommy, whom I first got to know almost 50 years ago.

In those decades Tommy ensured that the rail stations at Carrick — and Dromod — firstly survived and then thrived.

Also knew him through his involvement in activities such as choir and ‘Chamber.’

Tommy was a great advocate for all positive things, be it industry or infrastructure.

He led by example and was the town’s best ‘ambassador’ on those issues. It was always ‘a quiet word, a prompt,’ to get you onside.

Personally I remember Tommy most — and most often — for his personal kindness. Those who regularly came through Carrick Station were made welcome and the experience always felt unique, too.

My heartfelt condolences to all the Phillips family. Tommy was a great friend to me when I worked in The County Hotel. I booked my ticket with him when I came to NY. A lovely celebratory service today, which I was pleased to be able to join in with, watching online. The reference to Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) made me smile, as I recalled speaking on the phone with Uncle Tom on the day of my mother's (his sister Alice) funeral last April. We reminisced about Wolves in the 1960s, and his favourite players. So sorry for your loss.
