An incredible family friend to us all through the years Tom took me under his wing so to speak when I moved to Cork city - letting me stay in his mums place out by the Lough. He was always there for a great chat and a laugh whenever we visited and I'll miss his mischievous eyes, his big heart and his 'solid as a rock' presence.

We hold wonderful memories of his trip to Canada for our wedding where he was the life and soul of the party, lost a bit of money to an 8 year old while playing lawn bowls, was involved in a BBQ heist and soaked up the warmth of the natural hot springs.

Tom - thanks for being there for me and our family through the years. Rest in Peace my friend.

Oh, My Dear Irish Family/Friends,

My heart is broken to hear the news of Tom's passing. Ann, Michael, Colm, Mary, the first time John Warren and I met all of you, you had brought us into your home as weekend orphans and you treated us as family—and that has continued to this day. We had glorious meals, musical interludes, trips to Kinsale and Kerry, and beyond. We had times for the pubs and a plethora of laughter—always generously treated by Tom with such generosity and warmth of spirit. The last time I was with the magnificent Roche family, I had the honor of an evening (5/23) with Tom and Colm. My friend Maryellen and I had come into Cork for a visit and I had been telling her all about this incredible Roche family. Ann, you were on your pilgrimage but I insisted that I was finally going to pay for a meal! To our amazement, Tom and Colm took us to Kinsale and we heard all about Colm's Academy Award experience with Charlie Mackesy. Tom , looked on with such pride I thought his heart was going to burst. Our night was perfect with that brilliant blend of stories, memories, love, vulnerabilities, and sincere and obvious delight that we were in each other lives. Ann, Michael, Colm, and Mary: you had such a darn fine husband and father. I love you all. I will miss him dearly.

I recall many, many happy memories of playing soccer on the Hartlands road - Glasheen road corner with the usual tribes of the O'Briens, Quinlans (of Glasheen road) and Dan Keating (beloved corner shop) holding forte in the goal ... such fun. Remembering the beauty of the Roche family gardens with the splendour of the aviary and of course the greyhounds.
