Heartfelt condolences to Elizabeth and all the O’Sullivan family at this difficult time.

Your Tom was an inspiration to so very many people. It was indeed a privilege to have had him coach the UCD crews in the 70s, and of course, many other crews over the subsequent decades. He left an indelible positive mark on so many of us!

The last time I met Tom was more than 40 years ago. The only communication I had with him since then was a Whatsapp, just a couple of months ago. He expressed serious concerns about the political direction of Trump’s USA (I live in California).

He was very appreciative that the 1974 Ladies Plate crew visited him at home in Kinvara in April, and wrote “that really helped!!!”

Calm waters now Tom, and bicycles and launches that will always reliable!

Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis!

At our recent committee meeting, a motion of sympathy was passed in relation to sad passing of Tom O'Sullivan.

He was fondly remembered for his friendship to Carrick-on-Shannon Rowing Club, his attendance at many Regattas his service to the sport of rowing in Ireland.
Tom was an amazing and unique person, one of a kind. I was fortunate to find him coaching a crew in Galway Rowing Club of which I was part. After UCG it was absolutely a revelation to have a coach who was so insightful and interesting. He will be missed, and he has left an amazing legacy of people who learned from him, his wit and will, most I’m sure are oars people. He is missed but alway will be remembered.
My sincerest condolences to the family.
Francis.

Elizabeth, Suzanne, John and Johanna, so sad for the void that Tom’s passing has created. Our loss pales by comparison to yours, but a sincere thank you for sharing Tom with so many. The behind-the-scenes time, love and support allowed him to be the truly extraordinary man that he was, a rowing coach, a teacher, a mentor and above all, an inspiration.

His influence rippled far beyond the riverbank. His measure was never just medals alone, rather it was in the character he helped forge, the resilience nurtured and the humanity he brought out in his athletes that was important to him. His ability as a wordsmith, quoting Kickham, Kavanagh et al, made the metaphors of rowing echo life itself – discipline, rhythm, trust and the pursuit of something greater than oneself.

It was wonderful, recently, to have been able to thank him for the passion: his and that which he imparted.

Rest in peace Coach Tom. You were and always will be an inspiration.

father. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.

Sincere sympathy to Elizabeth & family on the sad passing of Tom. May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to Elizabeth and family
I got to know Tom meeting and chatting with him from time to time when I was rowing for DUBC in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In ‘Christie’s Bar’, the boatman’s workshop in a back corner of our boathouse, the conversations and pints after events would go on almost all night at times. He was a good man, an accomplished oar in his own right, and produced some very good UCD crews. Irish Rowing has lost a prominent figure and an excellent coach whose reputation and memory will endure. Condolences to his wife, Elizabeth, his children, family, and friends.
Condolences to Suzanne; Brian, Johanna and Lily on the loss of your beloved Dad, Grandad and father in law. May he rest in peace.
My sincere sympathies to Suzanne,Brian,Johanna, Lillie and O ‘Suliivan family
Thinking of you at this sad time
RIP
Deepest sympathy to Elisabeth and family, Pat and family and Bridie
on the sad passing of Tom, a legend in the rowing world. I spend four
years 'trying' to 'back-him-up' - '60-'61 with UCD and '63/'64 with O.C.
We had some wonderful races, and equally enjoyable celebrations,
which weren't curbed by 'breathalyser' laws. Those years were 'mighty'
and 'seared' on our brains for ever. Thank you Tom, for your friendship
and comradery over the last 65 years, you'll be greatly missed.
So sorry to hear about Tom's death. My sincere sympathy to Liz and all the family.
Mark Hickey (UCDBC 1970-1973)

be missed by all who know him, he leaves a loving lasting legacy. May he Rest in Eternal Peace.
Deeply saddened by the passing of Tom — an inspirational and consistently successful coach, mentor, and friend. His passion, care, and meticulous attention to detail profoundly shaped everyone he coached, both on and off the water. It was a privilege to be coached by him, coach alongside him, and learn from him. Over more than 60 years in rowing, his legacy lives on in all those he inspired. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Elizabeth, Suzanne, John, Johanna and their families at this very difficult time.
"Rowing doesn’t just build great crews; it builds great people." Thanks Tom. RIP.
Sincere condolences to Elizabeth and family on the death of Tom. May he rest in peace. He was a lovely human being.
Sincere condolences to Elizabeth and family. I'm sorry I was unable to attend the funeral.

As my Leaving Certificate English teacher in Coláiste La Salle, Tom taught me the art of close reading which has stood me in good stead over the years. As a colleague in St John's College, Tom was always a straight talker with his own wry sense of humour and willingness to help others. He was good company, with a wide range of acquaintances.

He will be missed - and remembered.
Very sad to hear of Toms passing. Condolences to Liz and family. I had the pleasure to see Tom in action coaching our crews during my time as Captain in Galway and HRR/HWR. His love of Rowing was instilled in all who had the pleasure to witness it. Rest easy Tom, you'll be missed by all.
Our sincere coldolences to Liz and family on the very sad passing of Tom. He was loved and respected by all the young people he coached, mentored and guided over the years in GRC and beyond. His knowledge was incomparable, along with passion, humour and fun to go with it. The likes we'll never see again. RIP Tom and Thank you

Thinking of Elizabeth and Tom’s wider family and friends at this most difficult time.

It was a great honour to be able to capture Tom’s crew on camera, during last year’s row-past at HRR and to be able to share that with Tom, Elizabeth and the whole crew.

It was a real privilege hosting Tom and the UCD girls at Leander for tea and tours, year upon year.

Henley week won’t be the same without him.

Sending love, hugs and my deepest sympathies.
As a DUBC man 1967-'71, I got to know Tom and his brother Pat quite well.
It was a remarkable time with the Guards and students from the North, South, and England competing in the most rigorous of sports and afterwards having enough energy to celebrate sports camaraderie. Pints and songs in carefree youth, indulged by Tom, UCD's toughest of coaches and a man who loved the sport.
RIP,
Bill Haldane
