So very sorry to hear of Tommy's passing, Such a lovely warm witty and mischievous man. He opened up my world to literature . When I was a very young girl sitting on the stairs in Egan's waiting for my Dad, he would give me a book to take home for the week, with the promise that I would bring it back in perfect condition, and then I would get another. I knew Tom in recent years through Cork Chess Club, where he was a constant welcoming and entertaining presence. Aside from the banter he was also a thoughtful and helpful member of the club assisting with activities in the club for many years.

He was a great character and a true gent and will be sadly missed by me and by the wider Cork chess community. My sympathies to all his family, may he rest in peace.
