Words cannot describe how upset I am writing this. I just wanted to pay my respects to the Clancy family and to Thomas. He taught me land law and Jurisprudece. I thought the world of him,he was an exceptionally smart, funny, kind, caring, fair, gentleman and a joy to listen to in class .He gave me a chance to go back and study law at 25yrs old, he was a mentor, friend and teacher rolled into one and will never forget him! I will always be grateful, rest in peace Thomas and thank you.

Condolences to the family and friends of Tomás especially Claire and their boys. He was a man of many talents and endless enthusiasm .
He was always so kind and patient with me when I was younger. I enjoyed his passionate musings on wine on Newstalk

Where the spirit never dies
And the bright light of salvation shines
In dark and empty skies"

This does not seem real. For a decade I soldiered with Tomás in Portobello College - he was the best of friends to me during this time. He will always be remembered by anyone whom had the honour of meeting him. To his wife and family I can offer nothing but my heartfelt condolences.
Tomás fought the good fight, he finished the race and he kept the faith. He was quite simply, the best of men.

I am deeply shocked by the passing of Tomas Clancy, a true Gentleman. My heart goes out to his family. His vast knowledge of wine never diminished his quest for learning. He brought the subject to a new level in Ireland and will be a hard act to follow.
Deeply shocked and distressed to hear of Tomás’ passing. What a wonderful, empathetic gentleman. It was a privilege to know him at all but it was a gift to have been his student, then his colleague and also his successor in providing law lectures to paediatric nurses. Attending his lectures in Portobello College was a joy and his pattern of pausing and saying, now you can put your pens down, was my cue to start taking notes. His erudition was, well, wonderful to behold. A supportive mentor and friend, his conversation was full of love and pride for his family and their achievements. To them .. please accept my deepest sympathy and condolences.
Sincere condolences to the Clancy family on the death of Tomas.
As a new wine importing company in the 2000’s , (Inis Wines), we were very appreciative of his support, and encouragement over the years. He was a real gentleman with a great sense of humour and will be sadly missed.

So sad for your loss. His advice on wines was a saviour on many an occassion.
Deepest sympathy to you all. I did not know Tomás but I enjoy his piece on Newstalk on Fridays. Very sad to hear of his passing.
Heartfelt condolences to all the immediate and extended Clancy family on the sad loss of Tomas. In truth we do not possess Tomas' eloquence to express our sadness on his untimely passing. Always kind and gentle, informed and humorous, we will miss the enthusiasm and kindness that he showed to all. Tomas, as we all know, became extremely well respected in the world of wine. This was at times hindered by his reluctance to fly but we thoroughly enjoyed his company at home and abroad even if that meant him driving solo to the depths of Europe to attend an event! Tomas has "left big shoes to fill" in his secondary role as a journalist and we imagine a huge hole in his primary role at home. Our thoughts are with you all.

My sincere condolences to all to Tomas' family on his untimely passing. Tomas lectured me in property law many many moons ago and turned a pretty dull subject into something interesting and witty. He was so charming, generous, funny and hyper intelligent and a wonderful lawyer and teacher. I then got to hear him on Movies and Booze and he was just so wonderfully charming. I was so deeply saddened to hear of his passing but will always remember him with a smile on my face. RIP.
Deepest sympathy to Claire and family on the death of Tomas. His endless knowledge, wit and humour will be sadly missed by all his fellow writers. Though razor sharp, he was never unkind and his kindness was something l experienced on the death of my own partner some years ago. He was far too young to go; may he rest in peace.
Behind the cheery extrovert exterior Tomas was a person of infinite sensitivity and kindness. On one memorable occasion in Bordeaux city I asked him, drawing on his encyclopedic knowledge of France , if it was possible to get a bus or train to St Emilion. Without pausing for reflection, he dropped everything and announced that he would drive me there. Now I cherish the memory of that day. He was hugely intelligent, endless fun and always wonderful company. Peace to you, Tomas.
Deepest condolences to Claire and the boys and to the Clancy family. It was a real privilege to know Tomas. I have the fondest of memories of him from our time together in Trinity and Kings Inns. R.I.P.
I was greatly saddened to hear of Tómas’s passing. He was the essence of the kind of person you would hope to meet in the wine world, knowledgeable, mannered, civilized, and cultured. A great loss to us all. Sincerest condolences to the Clancy family.
Very sad news indeed - Tomas was one of the best exemplars I know of the maxim to treat others as you would have them treat you - I will particularly remember him for the Trinity Players production of Casablanca
I had the pleasure of knowing Tomas as a colleague in the Law Library, and as a fellow lecturer for a number of years. He was, quite simply a true gent in very sense of the term. Gone too soon. Never forgotten.
My deepest sympathies to the Clancy family. I was fortunate enough to be taught Jurisprudence by Tómas in Independent College Dublin. He was an excellent lecturer. Always kind and patient, and an excellent cheerleader for his students. May he Rest In Peace.
Many trips, many meals and many stories and always fun. Thomas will always be a part of the fabric of the Irish wine world. For decades of chatting on wine and a little tasting the one word that sums Thomas is gentleman. Gentle of soul and generous of heart, I lift a glass to you my friend.
Dear Claire, Tomás, James and all the Clancy family.
The sadness, sorrow and disbelief felt by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting, working with and knowing Tomás, while profound, can only be a fragment of your sense of grief and loss. I hope that the heart scald and shock will ease for you knowing how highly Tomás was respected and admired.
Thank you for being so generous in sharing Tomás with so many. Tomas' immortality lives on in the happiest of memories he created for all he met. Every wine press trip and event was all the richer and more memorable for Tomas' illuminating presence. Kindness, consideration and encouragement are a few of the many words that describe Tomás' character. Add any positive word and it would describe him aptly. My deepest condolences to you and may Tomás rest in peace.

Just knew Tomas from the radio and loved to listen to him. He will be greatly missed. RIP Tomas.
My deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Tomás. I had the pleasure of having Tomás as a lecturer during my law degree where I found him to be instantly likeable, extremely helpful, insightful, witty and deeply knowledgeable. I always looked forward to his lectures as he had an amazing ability to make topics come alive with his understanding of the subject matter and ability to impart his knowledge to his students. Now a Barrister in practice I often think back to my times in class with Tomás and how lucky I was to have such an inspiring lecturer. He will be greatly missed, may he rest in peace.
Sincere sympathies to Luke (Senior) on my own behalf as well as from colleagues in the Faculty of Public Health Medicine. I was greatly saddened to hear the news. May Tomás rest in peace.
Sincere condolences on the passing of Tomás to all his family and friends. He was a kind and warm gentleman and colleague and a wonderful raconteur.
We were very saddened to hear this news. Deepest sympathy and most sincere condolences from the Sharkey family. May he rest in peace.
I learned with sorrow of the passing of one of the funniest and nicest men I have ever met. We met when I started in the Law Library in 1990 and he was extremely kind and helpful to me. He then directed and produced me and many others in the Bar Drama Society's "An Ideal Husband".
His wit and imagination carried us all. I followed his later career with great enjoyment, I will miss his beautiful voice. My deepest condolences to his family. R

We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to hear of the passing of Tomas.
No one ever will fill the gap that he has left in the wine trade in Ireland and in the world of wine. He was always a true gentleman, a scholar and a wonderful all round human being. He only had good words to say about anything and anybody and was such a pleasure to be with. We send our most sincere condolences to Claire, the boys and his extended family. May he rest in everlasting peace and the happiness he truly deserves, Peter, Jonathan, Robert and all the staff of Mitchell & Son.
