So shocked and saddened to hear of Tomàs' untimley loss. Keeping TJ,Teresa, Sinèad, Brian, Therèse and David in my thoughts and prayers. Very fond memories of a warm, funny and caring Tomàs on the few occasions we met in Dublin or Kilrush. I can only imagine what a wonderful Doctor he was. So desperately sad.
May the lights of heaven shine out to him.

Dr. Tomás, I met you only once. You were the light of that night..great fun, a big warm smile, a fan of a bit of craic, a very special brother to your sisters Sinéad and Thérése..your potential for your future in medicine was evident. Dr. Lyons was assigned as my medical oncologist to give me a second opinion on my breast cancer. I was so scared, and every word was new to me. He took the time to explain everything, and spent 2 hours with me and my family. When asked if I could have a drink during chemo he said he was Irish, of course I could. I hope he knew how much comfort that one joke brought me and my family that day. I often think back to us all laughing and smiling for a minute. I was treated in my home city, but he later got me in for a very important consultation with the best. If he did this much for me in one appointment and one email, I can’t even imagine what he did for the cancer community.

I hope his loved ones know how important he was to his patients. Thank you for sharing him with us. May his memory he a blessing.

I was lucky enough to be a patient of Dr Lyons at MSK in NYC. What a special individual whose life was cut short. I am sending my heartfelt condolences to his parents, entire family, partner David and all who he touched in Ireland before he came to NY. And too to his Memorial Sloan Kettering family. He will be missed by so many........for me, his humor and kindness and ability to explain everything when i was diagnosed with breast cancer is something i will never forget. His brilliance and kindness emanated from him like a white light. I send all healing thoughts at this very difficult time.

My condolences to your whole family on the loss of Dr Lyons. Dr Lyons treated me last year. I always appreciated his cheer, straightforward manner and his solution orientation. He was a bright star for all of us in his care.

I worked with Tomas in CUH while he was an intern SHO and regitrar and he stole a part of my heart. He will be forever remembered and held with deep affection and esteem. I had the pleasure and privilege to work with Tomás a few years ago in Beaumont. We clicked instantly and became good friends. He was a breath of fresh air, full of kindness, humour and integrity. He made such an impression that I named my first son Tomás.
We had a few great nights out and although our contact diminished since he’s been away I’ve always looked forward to him returning. I am so sad to hear of his passing - he will he missed dearly.

Early this year, a very close and precious family member of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer. Needless to say this was very shocking to all of us and we at once turned to MSKCC for help. That is when we met Dr. Tomas Lyons. As a physician in the field of reproductive medicine, I see many of the same emotions from patients that Dr. Lyons must have encountered over the years, and at the end of our first visit, I actually told him I wished he could be working with me. That in a nutshell is how impressed and taken I was with this magnificent individual. His kindness, his optimism, his reassurance, his knowledge, the list goes on and on. Just several days before his untimely passing I was speaking to him about my family member's case and in response to one of my statements he replied: "Suna, that does not make my life harder, it's my job...". The dignity, the pride, the compassion, what more can be said? Dr. Lyons, you will forever be missed. You have uplifted our lives in such a positive way that we are forever grateful to you and your everlasting memory, as I am sure so many others feel as well. To his loving family and partner, please know that his spirit lives on as he will always be remembered with nothing but the utmost of admiration and love. As my brother so accurately stated, he became our hero. May God rest his soul, and may he bless all those who were fortunate enough to be touched by this uniquely gifted and wondrous human being.

He was a gem of a human being. his spirit and zest for life will always be remembered and awe inspiring. I had the Good fortune to Be able to pick Tomas’ and Maureen’s mind at mskcc in clinic often . he always was gracious w his time and thought process and brought such a lightness w his humor , phenomenal fashion sense and Irish brogue.

I hope the beautiful memories carry his family and loved ones through such a sudden, tragic time. With a heavy heart, sending each of you much love and light.

It was so hard for you all when your beloved Seán died and then for Tomás to die so suddenly is unimaginable. I pray that both your sons/brothers will carry you through the grief in the weeks, months and years ahead. David - life I imagine will never be the same again for you. My heart goes out to you and I pray and know Tomás will be there with you every step of the way as you try to live without him and also to understand why he died so young.
