Tommie Padden

My most profound sympathy to all my family, and Thomasina Padden in particular. It feels strange to be writing this, because it's hard for me to think of either of you as existing without the other. Every person is unique; but in my mind, you two always seemed to be of a piece, intrinsic and inseparable parts of the same entity, "Granny and Granda," as if welded together by a lifetime of love whose strength I could sense every time I entered your home. I can only imagine what it is to lose someone with whom one has shared one's life so completely and for so long. I'm still sad to have lost him, but I know that I'll always treasure the time I was able to spend with him; and I'm sure you'll feel something similar. I'm sure, too, that his legacy will live on in Leitrim for a long time yet, and I hope you can take comfort in that.

He was a very welcoming and kind man, with a twinkly smile and an easy laugh. He introduced me to Gordon Lightfoot, and I will always remember his love of music and his wonderful dancing.

My Grandad was the most loving, caring, gentle, funny man in the world and I was so lucky to have him as a Grandfather. He was an amazing grandad; never failed to make me laugh and smile and feel loved. I always felt safe and happy when I was with him and he always had some fun up his sleeve. He would always have a big hug and smile waiting for me whenever I visited. His smile could make you feel like the only person in the world. His love for his family, friends and food will never be forgotten.
