My deepest sympathies to you all, Joe, Hugh, Mel and Gerry, Marie, Kathleen and Helen, extended families, and neighbours. Sorry was unable to visit since Tommy's sudden passing caring for his livestock. Tommy like all the Maguires are treasure throves of local wisdom and the best of neighbours. As the Maguire homestead is very prominent in Clonelly, myself and the rest of the surrounding families always took stock of the farming practices, and the tidiness of the Maguire set up.
Hard and laborious daily tasks was the order of the day, Tommy was a skilled digger driver making farming tasks easier and showed us non digger people the way to go. Clonelly Bog where we all laboured together side by side was made enjoyable with the interactions and the bottle of tea, and the race to be the first to bring the turf home.
The one attribute of Tommy and brothers and sisters is their deep quiet faith handed on from James and Ellen. This Sunday we are called by Pope Leo, to be witnesses, of our faith, the Maguires and surrounding families are witnesses to me of people of quiet faith, hard work and knew when the day is done to relax, read, listen and take stock of the right way to approach the task at hand. If all the Maguires were available to represent Clonelly, in the Townland Quiz it would be a close finish. Tommy will be missed by you his own and by all of us, but his place like all our loved ones will be forever in our hearts. Rest in Peace
